Bug Found In One UI 7.0 Causes Rollout To Be Halted; One UI 8.0 Development Started Earlier

Samsung has temporarily suspended the global rollout of One UI 7.0 based on Android 15 after discovering a critical bug. The update, which had begun reaching Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 devices, has now been paused indefinitely as the company investigates and works on a fix.

The issue was first reported by reliable informant Ice Universe and subsequently discussed on South Korean community forums. According to initial reports, the bug affects the unlocking functionality of some devices, preventing users from accessing their smartphones under certain conditions. Although early speculation pointed to the Exynos 2400-equipped Galaxy S24 models as the source of the problem, newer reports suggest that Snapdragon-powered versions in the U.S., as well as the latest foldables, are also impacted.

The rollout began in South Korea on April 7, 2025, and expanded to the U.S. by April 10 before Samsung halted distribution. Firmware files have since been removed from over-the-air (OTA) servers globally. While Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the suspension or provide technical details, it has reportedly begun pulling firmware updates in all regions as a precaution.

This unexpected pause has caused concern among users, particularly those with older Galaxy models, as the update schedule was initially set to continue through June. The bug’s presence, despite an extensive beta testing phase, has raised questions about the effectiveness of the testing process.

At present, users are advised to wait patiently while Samsung resolves the issue. The company is expected to resume the update once the critical flaw is corrected. Until then, further rollout remains on hold.

One UI 8.0 Development Started Earlier

At the same time, it seems like Samsung is early by two months when it comes to its next big OS update, the One UI 8.0 based on the Android 16. The initial rollout is currently taking place in India and is available to developers that have a Galaxy Z Flip 6. The firmware version for this update is F741BXXU2CYD7.

This early build includes the April security patch and has a file size of approximately 3,160 MB. However, it does not yet provide a full changelog or indicate any significant changes to the user interface. This suggests that the release is an early internal test version of Samsung’s next software skin.

At this stage, Samsung has not publicly commented on the release or provided any official details regarding One UI 8.0. Despite this, the early availability of the update hints that the stable version could be released more quickly compared to previous updates. Builds for the S25 series were also spotted in the servers:

If development proceeds as expected, the official rollout of One UI 8.0 along with Android 16 is anticipated to begin around July 2025.
