If you have an
LG TV
in your living room, it has recently gained a
powerful new feature
for you to try out through a partnership with Microsoft.
In January, Microsoft and LG revealed their collaboration to introduce the
Xbox Cloud Gaming app
on LG smart TVs via the LG Gaming Portal this year. Now, LG has confirmed that the Xbox app is rolling out now on select LG smart TVs, enabling users to stream Xbox games directly on their TVs through Xbox Game Pass, all without the need for a console. You only need a controller and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
“Conveniently accessible from the Gaming Portal and the LG Apps, the Xbox app enables LG TV owners to jump straight into gameplay from day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, launching hundreds of titles from Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, Xbox Game Studios, and more — with just a compatible controller,” LG said in a press release.

Which LG TVs are eligible?
You might need to update your LG TV
The Xbox app is rolling out on select LG smart TVs starting in 25 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. For a full list of countries, check out LG’s website.
…if your LG TV is from 2022 or newer, you should be able to download the Xbox app through LG’s Gaming Portal.
The Xbox app is only compatible with certain LG smart TVs, including “LG TVs and select smart monitors running the latest webOS 24 and newer versions” and “2022 OLED TVs, 2023 OLED, QNED, NanoCell and UHD TVs — which have been updated to software version 23.20.01 or higher,” according to LG’s press release.
LG states that the Xbox app “will soon be available” on its StanbyME screens as well. Essentially, if your LG TV is from 2022 or newer, you should be able to download the Xbox app through LG’s Gaming Portal.
If you don’t see the Xbox app available for download on your LG TV yet, you might need to update it to the latest version of webOS, the software that runs on its TVs. To do this on your LG TV, head to Settings > All Settings > Support and select Software Update. Then select Check for Updates. If an update is found, select Download and Install. I recommend turning on Auto Update if it isn’t already enabled, so your TV will automatically update in the future.

The Xbox app is launching at the perfect time on LG TVs
There are some great new games to check out
LG
Once you’ve downloaded the Xbox app onto your LG smart TV, you’ll be able to stream a variety of games thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming. However, to access Xbox Cloud Gaming, you will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which costs $20 per month.
The Xbox app couldn’t have arrived on LG smart TVs at a better time if you’re looking to play some new games. Bethesda recently released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, its beloved RPG that originally launched in 2006 fully remade in Unreal Engine 5, for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Another highly anticipated title, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, just launched on Xbox Game Pass and is currently the highest-rated game of 2025.
I’ve had the opportunity to try out Xbox Cloud Gaming a few times on my PC, and I was impressed with its performance.
I’ve had the opportunity to try out Xbox Cloud Gaming a few times on my PC, and I was impressed with its performance. Is it as good as having a physical console or a PC running the game natively? No. But the quality is impressive, and if you’re playing on a TV with a good internet connection, it’s very playable.
This isn’t the first time the Xbox app has become available on a smart TV platform. Samsung smart TVs have supported the Xbox app since 2022, and Amazon Fire TV devices gained support last year. Xbox’s expansion of its app to different platforms is part of its new market strategy, which uses the tagline “This is an Xbox” to promote the Xbox app’s wide availability across various devices for game streaming. Recently, Xbox has also made it possible to play games on the cloud that you already own, not just those included in Xbox Game Pass.
