Samsung has officially started the public beta testing program for One UI 8.0, beginning with the Galaxy S25 series. The initial rollout took place in South Korea this Wednesday (28), and the update is now available for registered users via the Samsung Members app. Eligible devices include the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra.
This update represents a major upgrade, as it is based on Android 16, and the installation package is substantial—nearly 5 GB—requiring a Wi-Fi connection for download. As with most beta releases, Samsung advises participants to back up all personal data beforehand.
The beta software is likely to contain bugs and system instabilities, which could lead to significant issues or even require a full system reinstall. Having a backup ensures that users avoid data loss in such situations.
The public beta program will expand beyond South Korea to include Germany, the United Kingdom, India, and the United States in the coming weeks, giving more users the opportunity to test the new interface before its official release.
One UI 8.0 brings a variety of visual refinements and functional improvements. One of the standout features is the integration of Android 16’s Live Updates into Samsung’s redesigned “Now Bar,” offering dynamic and timely information directly within the interface. Users can also expect smoother animations, a revamped Samsung Internet browser, and improvements to Samsung DeX, which enables a desktop-like experience when the phone is connected to a larger display.
Additionally, RAM Plus, Samsung’s feature that allocates virtual memory from internal storage to enhance multitasking, has been updated. Several proprietary apps have also received UI and performance enhancements, aiming for a more cohesive and responsive user experience across the system.
Samsung has not provided a specific date for the stable release of One UI 8.0, but the public rollout is expected around August this year.
Price Context: While this update is free, the Galaxy S25 series itself is positioned in the premium tier. For reference, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to retail around $1,199 USD, with the S25 and S25 Plus likely priced at approximately $899 and $999 respectively, depending on region and configuration.
