Creamy and sweet with a bit of tang, sour cream ice cream is bright and refreshing when served in a cone, over a slice of apple crisp, or scooped into a bowl and topped with a warm berry sauce.


Sour Cream Ice Cream
I figured that if buttermilk worked so well in ice cream, why not try sour cream in a batch of ice cream? I’m happy to say that the the ice cream turned out great. Just a hint of a tang from the sour cream lingers in each bite of this ice cream.
The first dessert I made that used sour cream in a sweet manner like this was a Layered Lemon Cheesecake, it has an irresistible sweetened sour cream topping that guests always rave over.
Similarly, a vanilla bean sour cream transforms a humble grape salad into something absolutely crave-worthy. While sour cream may not be the first thing I reach for when thinking of sweet treats to make, it’s a fun twist on the traditional straightforward dessert flavors.


Ice Cream with Sour Cream
You’ll need the following ingredients to make this ice cream:
- sour cream
- sugar
- kosher salt
- heavy cream
- milk
- vanilla extract


Sour Cream Ice Cream Recipe
To make this ice cream, start by whisking together the sour cream, sugar, and salt. When that mixture is smooth, slowly add the cream while whisking constantly. Add the milk and vanilla extract. Whisk again to combine.
Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and process according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Serve immediately or transfer to an airtight container and freeze until ready to serve.

Honey Ice Cream is the ultimate complement to a bowl of berries or grilled peaches. And for a real treat, try serving it with a couple of salted honey cookies.
