After a long few months of teasing, Netflix has finally let us know just when and how we’re going to get the final season of Arcane, and to the surprise of no one, it’s a), soon, and b), a lot like how we got the first season.
Last night during its Geeked Week Live event in Atlanta, the streamer confirmed that Arcane season 2 would release across November in three acts. Act one will release November 9, Act two November 16, and Act three on November 23, bringing an end to the story of Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, and the rest of Zaun and Piltover. Before you get too sad about the impending end of one of Netflix’s best animated series however, the streamer also released a new clip from the season, teasing Vi entering her pit fighter era. How’s it going for her? Not great, it seems!
(Be warned: there’s a lot of flashing lights in this clip if you’re sensitive to that, while Vi gets her lights knocked out repeatedly.)
It’s clear coming into this season after the explosive climax of the first that Vi’s got a lot of rage she’s trying to put somewhere, but as all League players know, trying to keep going while you’re tilted is only going to lead to a bad time. And things are looking pretty distracting for Vi between her lingering thoughts about her connection to Caitlyn, and Jinx’s ascendance as the new face of Zaun’s revolution against Piltover. As tensions between the two cities get ready to boil over, Vi’s going to have to drag herself out of proverbial Elo hell soon enough to try and put a stop to Jinx’s plans of chaos.
We’ve got a little more time to wonder just how bad it’ll get for Vi and her friends before Arcane returns, but at least when it does, it won’t be alone. Also announced last night by Vi and Jinx’s voice actresses, Hawkeye‘s Hailee Steinfeld and Fallout‘s Ella Purnell, Netflix will also release a new show called Afterglow alongside each act of Arcane season 2, an after-show breaking down behind the scenes what goes on in each act.
While Riot have said that Arcane was always meant to end this way–and pave the way for future League of Legends animated projects–there’s still a little pang of sadness that we’re really close to seeing the show bow out one last time. We’ll find out if Arcane goes down swinging, just like Vi herself, when it returns to Netflix in November.
